Thompson's Development Dilemma
Coach Thompson tracks player development across age groups. Each team plays in a different league, and statistics lived in scattered spreadsheets.
Three different spreadsheets - one per age group. Statistics lived in one file, match results in another, player notes in a third. Finding a specific player's progression required opening multiple documents and cross-referencing by name.
Every year, Thompson started fresh. New spreadsheet, new formulas, lost history. When a parent asked "how has James improved since U13?", Thompson could only give a vague answer.
Some players competed at multiple levels - a talented U15 player might play up with U17 occasionally. Tracking that across separate spreadsheets was nearly impossible.
The Unified Approach
Thompson created one group called "Youth Academy" with three teams (U13, U15, U17). Each team had its own season, but everything lived in one place.

When Marcus moved from U13 to U15, his stats came with him. Thompson could see: U13 season - 12 goals in 18 matches (0.67/match). U15 season - 8 goals in 10 matches (0.80/match). Career total: 20 goals in 28 matches.
When the new year started, Thompson cloned each season: Team rosters preserved. Statistics reset to zero. Fixtures auto-generated. Old season archived for reference. Setup time: 15 minutes for all three teams.
When parents asked about their child's performance, Thompson shared the player's profile page. Goals, assists, playing time, disciplinary record - all there. No more hunting through spreadsheets.
