Managing Stoppage Time
Learn how to add and manage stoppage time during live matches, understand time notation, and track per-half stoppage.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, make sure you have:
- A Balla Stats account
- Admin or Owner role in your group
- An active live match in progress
Stoppage time (also called injury time or added time) is additional time added at the end of each half by the referee to compensate for delays during play such as injuries, substitutions, and time-wasting.
Referee's Discretion
Added time is determined by the referee based on stoppages
Time Notation
Displayed as 45+3' or 90+5' in standard football format
Stoppage time is NOT the same as extra time. Stoppage time is referee-added minutes at the end of each half. Extra time is two 15-minute halves played in knockout matches when scores are level.

The Add Stoppage Time button appears automatically at key points during the match:
Button Appears At
- 45 minutes - End of first half
- 90 minutes - End of second half
- 105 minutes - End of extra time first half (knockout only)
- 120 minutes - End of extra time second half (knockout only)
The button only appears at the appropriate times. You do not need to worry about adding it too early.
When the stoppage time button appears, click it to add minutes:

- 2A dialog will appear asking for the number of minutes
- 3Enter the minutes of stoppage time (1-10 minutes)

Once stoppage time is added, the match timer updates to show the standard football notation:
First Half Example
45+3'
3 minutes of stoppage time added after 45 minutes
Second Half Example
90+5'
5 minutes of stoppage time added after 90 minutes

Balla Stats tracks stoppage time separately for each period of play:
Tracked Periods
- 1First half stoppage time (after 45')
- 2Second half stoppage time (after 90')
- 3Extra time first half stoppage (after 105', knockout only)
- 4Extra time second half stoppage (after 120', knockout only)
Each period's stoppage time is stored independently. This allows accurate match records and detailed match reporting.
Stoppage time is reflected in the final match result display:
Result Format Examples
- Full Time (90+5') - Match ended after 5 minutes of second half stoppage
- Full Time (AET 120+3') - Extra time match with 3 minutes added to second ET half
- Full Time (AET - Penalties) - Match decided by penalty shootout after extra time
Add at the Right Time
Add stoppage time when the referee indicates it. The button appears automatically at the right moments.
Typical Amounts
First half usually gets 1-3 minutes. Second half typically gets 3-6 minutes. Adjust based on actual delays.
Historical Accuracy
Recording accurate stoppage time helps create precise match records that reflect the real match timeline.
